Parents & Siblings

Parents & Siblings Time

We understand how important it is for siblings to spend time together, especially when they are settling into nursery. We offer time that a sibling can visit another playroom with a member of staff throughout the day. Sometimes the Preschool children will go to the Baby room or a Baby can go to Preschool.

Parents as Partners

We believe in working in partnership with our parents, therefore as well as communication with your child’s keyworker, we communicate via our website, emails, parent’s evenings, notice boards and monthly newsletters to keep you up to date with news and events. We were the first nurseries in Midlothian to introduce on line learning journals, we did this in August 2013.

Parent's survey

We welcome feedback from parents on how we can improve our service. We carry out an annual parent's survey and publish the results annually.

Parent's Forum

To maintain a high level of partnership with our parents we have a Parent’s Forum for each individual nursery. We have had some great suggestions from our parent's forum. Recent suggestions include trip locations. We have visited the zoo, East Links Farm, Vogrie Country Park and Dalkeith Country park and we have had some parent helpers come along and join in the fun.

Volunteering

We welcome parents to come and spend some time in the nursery with us if they can. We have had parents support us with our gardens, tell the Preschool children about their jobs and play instruments.

I was really nervous for my son to start nursery, but seeing how happy he is when we say its nursery day tomorrow, and how excited he is to be welcomed by all staff and his friends in the morning instantly put me at ease. When I look through my sons learning journal, and see all the activities and details of what he has been learning that day, it really shows how much effort and thought the staff put into setting up different stations and things for them to do. The last 5 months I have really saw my wee boy thrive, his speech, his understanding of colour, numbers and different objects/ toys, his relationships with friends have all totally come on and that defintely with the help of the nursery. I thought it was important to reach out and praise the excellence of this nursery and especially the staff, as it is so easy for all the hard work behind childcare to go unnoticed but really it is one of the most important jobs of all.

When Mac started nursery, I had to quickly get my head round - leaving my baby with strangers and going back to work. Thankfully from day one, Nicole, Lyndsay and Brooke put me at ease. He learns new things every day. His dancing /love of music always got a smile as they described it to me. Mac seems to love all his trips and the pictures of him at the zoo with Nicole and Lyndsay are my favourites. My mum and dad still speak about grandparents day and how welcome they were made. It's the talk of their friends in Aberdeen!

Pinocchios Heriot Watt is an excellent nursery. From the home cooked meals, the wonderful outside space to the fantastic staff that know all of the children and their siblings. Prior to Pinocchio's, our son attended a different nursery who were unable to provide the level of care required for his additional health needs, since moving to Pinocchio's all of his needs, and more have been taken care of diligently and sensitively. I have been using Pinocchio's at Heriot Watt for nearly 3 years and I regularly highly recommend the nursery to anyone that will stand still and listen. The facility itself is great but the staff are just fabulous. I give them the 2 most precious things in the world on a weekly basis and they care for them exceptionally! I think all the staff are fabulous and I am very grateful that my babies are in very safe hands. Fingers crossed they can be awarded for the excellent job they do as a team.

My daughter has been at Pinocchios for three and a half years and loves it. All the staff are friendly and helpful. You are kept well informed on the curriculum they are teaching and get photos of your child completing tasks through play. I would certainly recommend Penicuik Pinocchios.

Boogie Beat music & movement is very fortunate to run weekly workshops with Pinocchio’s Nursery. The quality of care for the children is wonderful. The staff are fantastic, and very much take part alongside Rosie in their Boogie Beat session! The team are focussed on early years communication, physical development, personal and emotional development and also teaching confidence, co-ordination and social skills whilst the children learn to express themselves.

Pinocchio's nursery has exceeded our expectations with the outstanding care they provide in a nurturing and welcoming educational setting, for our two children. The children all benefit from a dynamic and professional team, management, practitioners and chef are passionate about the children, their individual needs and have a genuine warmth about them. We are always impressed with the huge effort and creativeness that the practitioners demonstrate in delivering fun yet educational activities, including, yoga, gardening, themed learning, outings and imaginative play. Pinocchio’s Eskbank is awesome! I have not once had reason to doubt my decision to send our little dude there. The staff are supportive, caring, attentive and so professional. The facilities are fantastic and the kids have lots of opportunities to engage with a variety of activities there and in the wider community as well. Parents are well informed and they really use the Facebook page to keep you updated on what the kids are up to. I highly recommend Pinocchios if you are looking for a nursery in Dalkeith – it’s the best!

The staff engage really well with the children and uphold the highest standards of care. Every effort is made to develop an attentive, supportive and friendly learning environment. The children receive top class meals that are freshly prepared by Nicky and are always full of chat and stories about their day.
